An Oasis of Your Own

An Oasis of Your Own

To be surrounded with a blooming garden is a dream for many people and research shows how beneficial greenery is for our health and well-being. But it can easily be out of reach, especially in a desert or dry Mediterranean climate where sun hours seem endless and summer temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius are normal.

But there is a way to do it. However, it requires an innovative mindset combined with horticultural knowledge in depth to be able to provide a lush garden in a challenging environment without being wasteful of natural resources, like fresh water. This is where energy efficient landscaping comes in. Using grey water for irrigation in stead of fresh water, combined with well adapted plants, enables us to garden with a clean conscience and with minimal maintenance costs.

Green roofs and vertical gardens can save a lot of room when cities are built densely. They can provide energy savings and be a part of sustainable architecture. But most of all, what they can do that a brick or a solar panel can not is to bring that special quality of life. A lifestyle improvement based on our connection and longing for nature and greenery. The simplest things like being able to have breakfast or dinner out on the garden patio or relaxing after a days hard work among flowers and butterflies.

These seemingly simple things, perhaps taken for granted in a temperate climate, can be worth a lot in the arid desert landscape.
